In the heart of India’s wilderness, an unforgettable journey awaited our family – a thrilling wildlife experience at Tadoba Tiger Reserve. With eager hearts and adventurous spirits, we set out to explore nature’s untamed wonders in June 2023.

Choosing the right way to experience the wild was the first challenge. Should we venture on our own or seek the expertise of seasoned wildlife enthusiasts? After careful research and the recommendation of a friend, we decided to entrust our expedition to the capable hands of Dennis and Delighta, the dynamic duo behind Forestale Safaris.

The excitement began at 4:30 am, as we embarked on a road trip from Hyderabad to Tadoba. The journey was peppered with scenic views, and despite a few patches of under-construction roads, we reached our designated stay at around 10:30 am.

A quick call to Dennis to inform him of our early arrival resulted in a delightful surprise. Delighta guided us to the homestay resort, where we were warmly welcomed by Dennis, Delighta, and their happy group of guests.

As if visiting old friends, we were treated to a delicious breakfast of masala tea, poha, and bread butter. The homestay Resort owner even assisted with early check-in, considering our youngest adventurer, our 20-month-old daughter, who had already filled our hearts with joy.

The spacious room with its comfortable amenities provided a much-needed respite, allowing us to recharge for our first wildlife safari scheduled at 2:30 pm on the same day.

Day 1: Upon reaching the safari departure point, Dennis advised us to leave our car behind, as he had arranged transfers. With his trusty Suzuki XL6 ready, we hopped in, along with our dry snacks and water bottles, prepared for an adventure like never before.

As we admired Taru, Chitraaksh, our 13-year-old son, felt a hunger calling. Swiftly, Dennis and Delighta’s cool box, filled with refreshments, was opened, and we relished the complimentary treats, amazed by their thoughtful gesture.

After Taru disappeared into the woods, our guide reassured us that we would reunite with him by the nearby lake. True to his words, Taru graced us with his presence again, calmly lounging near the water’s edge.

With Taru’s majesty etched in our hearts, we ventured into other parts of the jungle. Delighta’s vast knowledge of birds and her eagle-eyed spotting skills added depth to our safari, as we encountered a myriad of bird species.

Chitraaksh yearned to spot leopards, and serendipity came into play. Our guide skillfully led us to two camouflaged leopards amidst the bamboo jungle. Our cameras captured this fleeting moment, fulfilling Chitraaksh’s desire.

Reuniting with Taru at the lake, we bid him farewell as he chose to stay undisturbed for a while. Filled with awe and gratitude, we returned to the homestay, where we were pampered with tea, pakoras, and a sumptuous dinner.

Day 2: commenced with a visit to the Kayaking place, where we captured picturesque shots of the lotus lake and its feathered inhabitants. After lunch, we eagerly set off for another safari, spotting birds, deer, crocodiles, and even the Indian Gaur, who bore witness to Taru’s previous triumphs.

Though Day 2 didn’t present us with any extraordinary sightings, the thrill was far from over. At the exit gate, a joyful surprise awaited us – the playful Sloth Bear, which we captured in our lenses.

Day 3 broke with the promise of a 5:30 am safari. Armed with Dennis’ well-prepared cool box, we found tranquility in the jungle and embraced the gentle rains under the Gypsy’s protective shade.

As the day unfolded, we searched for elusive sightings, but sometimes nature tests our luck. However, the joy of spotting the graceful Maya, a well-known tigress, walking towards us, made the journey worth every moment. Her presence enchanted us, but she disappeared behind the mountain.

Undeterred, we explored another tigress area, in hopes of catching a glimpse of her cubs. Alas, luck wasn’t on our side this time. Nevertheless, the lush beauty of the jungle and the soothing rainfall offered solace, and we found ourselves at peace in this pristine environment.

Heading back to the homestay, we relished tea and snacks, sharing tales of our captivating encounters. A brief respite before lunch prepared us for the fourth and final safari, scheduled at 2:30 pm at the Moharli Gate.

The rhythmic pitter-patter of the rain accompanied our safari as we set out, the Gypsy now sheltered once more. Our skilled driver and guide navigated the jungle trails with precision, allowing us to savor every moment.

And then, the excitement surged as word spread among the safari vehicles – a tiger sighting! We rushed to the scene and were rewarded with the sight of Tigress Sonam and her three playful cubs. Though a bit distant, we managed to capture their presence in our camera lenses, forever etching the memory in our hearts.

With this final gift from the wild, we bid adieu to Tadoba Tiger Reserve, having encountered six majestic tigers during our enthralling adventure.

Gratitude filled our hearts as we reflected on the incredible journey that Forestale Safaris had crafted for us. Dennis and Delighta had transformed our first wildlife experience into an indelible memory, guiding us with their expertise, sharing their passion for nature, and showing unwavering hospitality.
