We’ve learned the value for money, friendship, relation, and everything else. We’ve learned all our lessons.
Ever since the mobile phones took over the charge of our lives, We kind of reduced having real communication with the people around us. This list of people includes our friends, family, ex-colleagues and so on. Back in those landline days, we would end up calling our people to wish them on their birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Or just to have small conversations or to know their whereabouts. Slowly we switched to the mobiles, all the wishing activities now happen through that one text message. Where are all those emotions behind talking to the real voice gone? Like someone rightly said, landline connected people because it was wired. Mobile is wireless, so people are free to walk away. The sad truth- the mobile era is taking away the real human emotions, empathy involved in those real conversations.
I remember the days where I used to stay up till 12 midnight to wish my dear ones on their birthdays, anniversaries. Now sometimes, I am the last one to wish them on their special days with a phone text or social media post/tag mostly. I wonder how did it all change so much? Not that removing those ten minutes in a day for that one call is that difficult, I guess I never pushed myself enough to make that one call. Also, on the other hand, calling my loved ones on normal voice or video calls and talking for hours makes me smile and adds so much happiness to my day.
When the social made came into existence I remember the Orkut days, where it all began. I started to search for all my friends with whom I had lost touch. I found them, added them on a friend list, exchanged numbers, and had long conversations for hours. Now when I look at my phone’s contact list I still have their phone numbers. Of Course, now we connect on what’s app and messenger but compared to those long conversations the current ones are short and sweet.
One of the biggest lessons this pandemic has taught us – we have started to communicate with everyone around us. While talking about the connectivity that technology allows or businesses worldwide, there are these conversations happening around the globe. Like people are connecting with each other, video calls are happening, voice calls are happening. There was a time when we were so busy with our lives, we avoided these conversations by making the work as a scapegoat. But look at us today, when I open my social media I see people sharing screenshots of people they are doing video calls with. Looks like ‘Zoom’ app was the most downloaded app during the lockdown, where most of these video calls happened. It is such a good site to watch those happy faces.
Families and friends are reconnected all over the world. Parents are able to communicate and spend more time with their children. Everyone around us is having a conversation about anything and everything with each other. The society groups on apps where people only raised complaints or fought all the time are now trying to communicate more with each other. People are sharing their talent i.e cooking skills, dancing skills, singing skills, etc. and their friends are sharing beautiful comments on their activities. This is also adding up to so much conversation amongst friends. The current situation of this pandemic in which we all are in can cause stress for so many. But thanks to technology, it has been bringing people so close and helping us stay connected. And that is how real conversations are happening around the world.
I hope this lesson that we learned during the quarantine to stay connected with the people, we keep this in mind for a life time and we continue having those real conversations with our loved ones forever.
